BWMSBA Celebration Dinner

Posted: 3rd November 2022

Finally, after two years of delays, the BWMSBA Celebration Dinner finally took place at the Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells, on Saturday 8th October. With approaching 100 people present, it was a fine way to round off a special year of events to celebrate 102 years since the formation of the Black Welsh Mountain Sheep Breeders' Association.

The evening was compered by Vice Chair Mr Steve Fostyth as the Chairman, Mr John Griffiths was unable to attend due to ill health. There was a brief pre-dinner illustrated talk outlining the history and development of BWMSBA from Gwawr Llewellyn Williams before a three course meal was served.

The main guest speaker, was Mr Gwynne Davies, a familiar face and well known voice to anyone who attends summer shows in Wales. He provided an insight into his farming life, sprinkled with plenty of amusing anecdotes involving quite of few of those present at the dinner. A response was provided by Mr Lyndon Trumper, for many years the auctioneer for BWMSBA on behalf of J Straker Chadwick. Malcolm Mcaull spoke to call to mind prominent and influential members from the past who are no longer with us and the vote of thanks was given by Edd Williams.

There was also the presentation of the Gaer Fedw Flock of the Year Competition, generously sponsored by Dyfed & Rowena Rowlands and Will & Sam Workman. The one off trophy, made of Anglesey oak, and weighing in at a whopping 17kg, was won by Matt & Donna Evans' Cefn flock. Runners up were Dyden & Rowena Rowlands and Rhian Rochford's Camelot flock in third place.
