BWMSBA Sale – Ruthin, 1st October.
A strong start for a new sale.
The Black Welsh Mountain Sheep Breeders’ Association’s first sale in North Wales took place at Ruthin Market on the 1st October. The entry of 63 lots was of good quality and that was largely recognised by the purchasers.
The top price of the day was for a two year old ram from I & J Jones, Tai’n y Waen, Corwen. Awarded the male championship by judge and BWMSBA President, Mr Nigel Daff, he sold for 1400gns to D Roberts, Hafod y Porth, Beddgelert. The second placed two year old tup Garth Uchaf Bourbon, from G Hughes, Fridd, Nantlle, also sold well, making 500gns, and will join the flock of Mr A Priestly, Hope Valley. The top priced shearling ram was also from I & J Jones and sold for 480gns.
Female trade was steady with the top price going to a shearling ewe from the Fedw flock of W Workman, Trecastle. Placed second in the show, she sold for 330gns. Top priced ewe lamb came from D & R Rowlands Gaer flock. She went was sold for 300gns and will join the Brynyreglwys flock of B Davies, Llanfynydd. Miss Davies was also awarded the female championship for her pair of home bred shearling ewes. These sold to O & H Moyle, Llanbrynmair, for 240gns per head.
